For the sake of those who doesn’t know who a punter is, a punter according to the dictionary is a person who gambles, places a bet, or makes a risky investment. But in my own terms, I will put it simply as a person that predicts the outcome of several sporting activities in order to make some money if his predictions are right. Below are m own compilation of what punters should avoid in order not to keep funding the expensive lifestyle of the various bookmarkers around from their little earning;
- Desperation : This is the major reason why most Nigerian punters leave big cities and pack back to their villages in order to start farming or what chronic punters know as T.R.T (the relegation team or train). Some punters are so desperate to have a green ticket no matter how little the win is, this affects both the online punters and those that play in various betting shops. For the online players, when they have their accounts fully loaded with their hard earned cash or some loose change, they will not bother to make a careful analysis of of upcoming matches, instead, they rush over to the live game/virtual section in order to quickly turnover /multiply their deposits and by the end of the day, they end up with little or nothing in their betting account.
Those that patronizes betting shops have the same virtual game syndrome related to that online users; you see some of these punters rushing to betting shops as early as 7:30a.m as if they are the shop attendant, all with the aim of playing virtual, make some cool cash, head back home and have a good meal with the free money, most of these people end up disappointed as they will be left with little or nothing. The most annoying part is those that will come with huge sum of money e.g school fees, house rent, their parent’s cash stash e.t.c. play till they lose all and later end up walking back home or borrowing money from fellow punters while feeling embittered and regretting their decision of visiting a betting shop.
- Curiosity : Don’t even get me started on this one, some people are so curious as to what the outcome of a sporting activity will be, they end up backing their curiosity with their cash and most times that very game that they are curious about will ‘cut’ their slip. The best thing to do the next time you get curious about a match is to remove that match from your slip. Like my brothers will say, half bread is better than chinchin i.e. it is better to win little/very little than to win nothing at all.
- Select-all syndrome : Some people just don’t know what and what not to include in their bet slip, they literarily confused and if not for the limitations on maximum maches that can be accumulated on a bet slip, some people won’t mind jam-packing all the analysed matches on a prediction site.
- Very long slips : This is similar to the above point, if you see some people’s long slip, you will think their dad owns a paper production company, when I said long slips, I am talking about the accumulation of 20+ matches on a slip, the possibility of winning such slip is very low.
- Stake-all syndrome : Most people believe that whatever they see on a prediction site or from a self-acclaimed fixed match source is 100% sure thereby staking their last card and when they lose at the end of the day, they tend to run into debt.
These are my main list of things punters have to avoid at all cost in order not to get wrecked financially and the main/featured point of this article/write-up is DESPERATION.
